On Monday, August 15, I will be giving a presentation as a part of the American Institute for Economic Research (AIER) Distinguished Speakers series. The topic of the event is Brexit in its Post-World War II Context, and will be held in the ballroom of the AIER's Stone House from 4 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. See the attached invitation for more information about the event.
I look forward to speaking about the implications of Brexit because my first job after the army in 1960-61 was at the State Department working in the office (RA, European Regional Affairs) that was pushing to get the UK to join the European Economic Community. Then I went to the delegation to the OECD working on agricultural and other trade-related issues. I have kept up with European developments ever since. Indeed, I believe that the U.S. success in promoting European economic integration over the past six decades more than anything else led to the collapse of the Communist Bloc.
Please join me in a fascinating discussion.
